More detail
Occupational therapists and CAPS-certified contractors are complementary, not redundant. The OT brings the clinical perspective — the patient's specific mobility limitations, fall-risk factors, ADL (activities of daily living) constraints, and a written recommendation set. The CAPS contractor translates that into specific construction work: bar height for the patient's reach, ramp slope for their upper-body strength, lighting placement for their night-walking path.
If an OT has already produced a written assessment, share it during the matching request. The contractor will quote against the OT's recommendations directly. If no OT has been involved, the contractor can coordinate one as part of the project — typically through their existing referral network of local OTs.
Medicare covers OT home visits when ordered by a physician as part of post-fall or post-discharge care. Medicare Advantage plans typically cover them more readily. Long-term-care insurance covers OT visits in most policies issued after 2010.
